Embarking on a cruise to Alaska is a SUPER popular dream for many of our clients. My multi-generational family recently experienced this amazing adventure aboard the Norwegian Bliss, specifically in the luxurious Haven section which elevates the journey to new heights of comfort and excitement. NCL market’s their Haven retreat as “a ship within a ship,” which is completely accurate as it offers exclusive amenities and personalized concierge service in five star accommodations complete with a private pool, bar and restaurant just for Haven guest. Of course those that stay in the Haven are able to take advantage of all the bells and whistles that the Bliss has to offer – including Broadway-style shows (we adored Six and Jersey Boys!), laser tag, go-karts, arcade, mini golf and more bars, lounges and specialty dining outlets than we had time to experience during our unforgettable Alaskan adventure.
Exquisite Accommodations
The NCL Havens (and they are mostly the same throughout the fleet, with some variation on the older ships where they were retrofit) boasts a range of accommodations, from spacious suites to stunning penthouses. The stylish decor and comfortable furnishings create an atmosphere of relaxation and elegance. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer unparalleled views of the Alaskan wilderness, allowing you to immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes without leaving your room. Our two bedroom villa gave us ample space for the family to spread out, a shared living room to hang together, and the bathroom with a full size soaking tub is nothing short of unparalleled on any cruise ship I’ve ever seen!
Personalized Service
One of the standout features of the NCL Haven is the personalized service provided by the dedicated staff. A 24-hour butler is at your service, ensuring your needs are met around the clock. From unpacking your luggage to arranging in-room dining, their attention to detail makes you feel truly pampered. The dedicated concierge desk assists with dining arrangements, on board activities and shore excursions, although we do recommend booking those in Advance for our cruisers!
Exclusive Amenities
The Haven offers an array of exclusive amenities, including a private sundeck and pool area. Imagine basking in the warm sun while surrounded by the icy beauty of Alaska – we were able to do this under the retractable roof of the Haven pool. TRULY a memorable moment! The Horizon Lounge is another highlight, and was my favorite place to curl up with my laptop for quick work check ins, providing a serene space to relax, enjoy complimentary refreshments, and soak in stunning panoramic views.
Culinary Delights
Indulgence knows no bounds on the Norwegian Bliss, especially within the Haven section. Gourmet dining options range from succulent steaks to fresh seafood (my son brags he had a lobster tail at every dinner we ate there), prepared by world-class chefs. Whether you choose to dine in-suite, on your private balcony, or in one of the specialty restaurants, every meal can be a culinary adventure. We also took advantage of the specialty dining on board (a few were included as part of our package) and particularly loved the Teppenyaki restaurant as well as the new Blu seafood option – fantastic service and the food was truly excellent!
Unforgettable Excursions
While the NCL Haven offers an array of comforts, the real magic lies in the shore excursions that reveal Alaska’s natural wonders. Explore pristine glaciers, spot majestic wildlife, and witness the mesmerizing Northern Lights. Whether you’re into hiking, kayaking, or simply taking in the breathtaking scenery, Alaska has something for every adventurer. We adored our wildlife adventures where we saw multiple humpback whales, bald eagles and sea otters. We got our adrenaline pumping on rafting expeditions! And we marveled from afar at the Dawes Glacier and nearby crystal waters.
Creating Lasting Memories
Beyond the stunning landscapes and luxurious amenities, the Norwegian Bliss and the NCL Haven provide opportunities to forge meaningful connections with family – while we love taking our time on the land, cruising offers a unique opportunity for families to eat dinner and then take in a show, a live music performance or a magic show every night – a typical day for us started with an early morning excursion off the boat followed by lunch together in the Haven restaurant. (Inside tip: our favorite lunch options were the Cobb Salad and the French Dip!). After lunch, we had a few who opted to go swimming or enjoy the arcade or mini golf, a few who went to organized games and activities like bingo, their version of the Newlywed game, and a cha cha class, to name a few. I spent a couple of those afternoons in the spa, and several enjoying the atrium with my Kindle and great playlist. We would regroup in the late afternoon for a cocktail in the Haven lounge, get dressed for dinner in one of the specialty restaurants, and then went to see a show or band (they had an amazing Beatles tribute band that played a different era every night in the shipboard “Cavern Club.” Late nights were for karaoke and casino – in short, there was something for everyone. We truly believe that these experiences inevitably lead to more conversations (sometimes to more drinks together after, lol) and more connectivity than any other family vacation!
