There’s something about crisp air, a sky so wide it feels like it’s breathing with you and majestic mountains all around you that seem to stretch out beyond the edges of the world. For a few unforgettable days in June, I unplugged and immersed myself in wide-open spaces, slow mornings, and adrenaline-laced afternoons at The Lodge at Blue Sky in Utah.
Highlights from the Range (and Beyond):
Clay Shooting With a View
Turns out, I’m a better shot than I expected. We spent the morning at the shooting range perched above a brushy valley. Cowboy hats on, instructions absorbed, and targets (mostly) hit. The setting felt straight out of a Western (complete with a whiskey chaser!).
Fly Fishing with the Guys
Sal and Charlie took to the river, suited up in waders and looking like they were born to cast. I mostly took photos and drank in the serenity (but who knew I’d fall in love with the sound of a line whipping through air)?
Moose Sightings and Moon Gazing
We were SO excited to see a moose up close and personal (from a safe and respectable distance, of course) that we spent close to an hour just watching munch and drink in quiet fascination. We followed it up with cocktails on the terrace and dinner at Tacocat (the on site Mexican pop up restaurant). Later that night, we turned telescopes to the moon and marveled like kids on a science museum field trip – we legit saw the International Space Station pass overhead!!!
Evenings by the Fire
There is nothing, and I mean nothing, like curling up in a wool blanket by a crackling fire after a long day of activity. Bonus points if you’re sipping local whiskey and watching the stars blink on one by one.
The most important part: Cowgirl Core, Activated
Yes, I lassoed a steer dummy. Yes, I posed like I was auditioning for the reboot of Dallas. And yes, it was all absolutely 100% as fun as it looks. Our wrangler-led roping and riding sessions were equal parts serious skills and serious laughs.
And also… it’s the (not so) Little Things
Morning cinnamon rolls in cast iron pans. Oversized customized birthday cake. The type of hotel experience where everyone not only remembers your name, but special details about your family. These are the kind of moments the team at The Lodge at Blue Sky prides themselves on – and they do it like everything out west – in a BIG way!!!
The Takeaway:
Turns out the secret to relaxation might be wide skies, good boots, and no cell service. If you’re craving that mix of adventure and stillness, luxury and lassoing, or simply want to see a moose while eating a five-star breakfast, Blue Sky is calling you – and I highly recommend you pick up!!!
